Skipper is in town! Ok, so let's go back about a year ago.... I started to get the nick name Barbie from different people in different places that I would be. One of my clients called me Barbie Jr, and of course SHE was Barbie Sr. She loved my tiny waist, platinum blonde hair and fit little body. She would tell me my hair can skin tone matched that of Barbie. I LOVED THAT! Once I was in the gym, and this GORGEOUS girl with a BARBIE body, but super long thick black hair came up to me and said "I'm sorry to bother you, I just wanted to tell you that you look like a barbie, your so beautiful". WHAT!?!?!? I was sooooo humbled and quite honestly that compliment made my day, week and yeah my month too! WOW! Before you know it, the longer my hair got, the tanner my skin and once I got the "GIRLS", Tina was no longer my name! HA! That's where the name Barbie came from...... and here I am as a Blond this summer in Cali... Boy did I fit right in!
Fast forward to Tuesday October 12th. It had to be one of my worst days in a very long time. As you know I have been having this shin issue. It was throbbing, hard to walk on, couldn't flex it and yea, lots of inflammation too. Since my friend Denise would have dragged me by my long golden locks if I didn't get to a doctor, I decided to call...eventhough I didn't want to (didn't want to hear the truth) I can't handle the truth! My Dr. looked at me and shook his head and asked me why I waited a whole week before coming in, and like a defiant little child, I looked at him and said, "Because I didn't want to". SO he told me it was bad and that I needed to get an MRI- ASAP! Well, off to Dr. Zelicof I went. The Dr. looked at my shin, asked me about 10 questions, and then got an X-ray. . He came back in and ANOTHER Dr. looked at it and asked me the dreaded question that ruined my day; "So, Tina, what if I told you you couldn't run for 6 weeks"? Well my eyes swelled up with tears and they poured down my face...and I just looked at him and said, "Well I guess I can't run then." He told me he couldn't let me leave without a boot on my leg. Not thinking about it, I figured it would be like a sleeve on my leg, nothing big nothing fancy. Well the nurse walked in with a FREAKIN BOOT! I looked in disbelief and asked "is that for me?" "YEP", she said. GRRRR....RIght about now, I have the boggest darkest cloud over my head and I just remember feeling really dark, sad, depressed angry and so stressed out.
I know your thinking, "this girl is such a drama queen". But for those runners who read my blog, YOU understand. As you have read in my past blogs, I run for so many more reasons that to have a super lean body. It's my spiritual connection with GOD, it's my THERAPY, and it's my TINA time.
I called my girl Gina at Posh Salon in Mamaroneck and asked for an appointment. I went in on Wednesday and just looked at her and told her I was ready to CUT IT OFF and GO SUPER DARK....Now Gina KNOWS me.... Usually she will just tell me NO, and do her thing...That's how I stayed BLOND so long! But she could see in my face I wasn't myself and needed a change. Here I am! My friend Nicole is so funny! Usually she calls me "GREEN BEAN", and now she calls me KIDNEY BEAN because of the red hair! I love it!
I feel better, I LOVE my new look. I feel refreshed and I feel like it's a new start. Everyone loves it and the one person I try to WOW at least once a day, my husband LOVES IT! So instead of going to a therapy session, instead of crying and drounding in my sorrows, I did something FOR ME to make myself feel better. Oh and guess what! 3 days wearing the boot, the inflammation is gone, no pain, I can stretch and flex my foot and I think I will be running SOONER than later! Life is good!
I truly believe if I stay positive and don't give in to any negative feelings or thoughts, I can overcome just about anything!
Ever think about a change? A cut? A color? a little botox? What do you do to make yourself feel better when you are down in the dumps?
I say do it! Go for a cut, a color! Be dramatic! It's HAIR! It will grow back! Color it! Liven up your look! It really does wonders for you!
XO
