Sleepwalking in Daylight!

The Most amazing book I have read YET! I could NOT put this book down!

Once defined by her career and independence, stay-at-home mom Samantha Friedman realizes her days have been reduced to errands, car pools and suburban gossip. It's a role she always assumed she wanted to play, but now Sam has a nagging awareness that this might be all there is. She deals with a husband who shows up for dinner but is too preoccupied for conversation, and a daughter swathed in black clothing and Goth makeup who won't talk at all.

Believing she's an adopted mistake, seventeen-year-old Cammy has fallen into sex and drugs, and pours herself into a journal filled with poetry and pain. On parallel paths, mother and daughter indulge in desperate, furtive escapism—for Sam, a burgeoning relationship with her supposed soul mate, fueled by clandestine coffee dates and the desire to feel something; for Cammy, a secretive search for her birth mother punctuated by pills, pot and the need to feel absolutely nothing.

New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Flock's novels have been hailed as "haunting" (Booklist) and "tremendously touching" (Kirkus Reviews). With Sleepwalking in Daylight, she perceptively reveals the inner workings of a modern marriage and the complicated mother-daughter relationship with unflinching honesty, delivering her most powerful, provocative story to date.

i hate cardio!

I hate cardio! Grrr~ I haven't taken a day off since last Saturday, I think! So, I am tired! This past weekend, I did more than my fair share of cardio. And I don't mean just walking on  the treadmill, I go all out! I was burning tons of calories! So today, I listened to my body while at the gym. I walked for about 5 minutes before I got bored. Today was HIGH REP leg & shoulder day.
Before I get into the workout, here are my meals so far:

#1- 4 whites 1 whole egg
1 cup spinach, fresh basil
2 cups honeydew melon

#2- Starbuck's Grande coffee w/ a shot of skim milk
Coconut Lara bar

Then I worked out (pretty early)

#3- POST WORKOUT MEAL
7 oz grilled chicken breast
4 cups salad including romaine,
cabbage, arugula, scallions
1 tablespoon flax oil & lemon juice

#4- shake
1 scoop protein
1/2 cup berries
1 teaspoon almond butter

#5- Ground turkey Medley
5 oz ground turkey
2 cups broccoli sauteed in tomatoes & onions and garlic

I am NOT eating anything else! I WILL work hard to get OFF the 3 pounds I WANT OFF SO BADLY!

My workout today:
Legs & shoulders HIGH REP DAY for toning and sculpting....

 Free Squat       &         Shoulder Press
                         4 sets      65lbs 15 reps         10lbs- 20 reps

Walking lunge with Side lateral raise
1 set with a 25lb bar on my back 18 reps       7.5lbs- 12 reps
2 sets with a 25lb bar on my back 24 reps    1olbs-10 reps & 1 set with 12.5lbs 10 reps

Leg press (unilateral) & reverse dbell fly's
3 sets 12 reps                 7.5lbs 12 reps

Glute kick back (butt blaster) & upright rows
37.5lbs- 20 reps 3 sets     25lbs 15 reps

At this point I am sent....NOPE, no cardio for me after this one.......
OVER AND OUT!
Until tomorrow!

Lara Bars! DELISH!

If you are not familiar, the LARABAR claim to fame is that they are the “original fruit and nut food bar” and contain less than six ingredients total. YES! Can you believe it?

LARABARs are also organic, no sugar added, 60-90% raw (depending on the particular bar), no GMO, gluten free, dairy free, soy free, vegan, and kosher. Although not considered a true protein bar, since the protein content in most is fairly low, they are a great snack option for when you are on the run.

JOCALAT is Fair Trade Certified™ chocolate made into bars in combination with fruit and nuts, and each bar contains less than seven ingredients total. These bars are all organic, no sugar added, and dairy, soy, and gluten free.

Apple Pie

Ingredients: Dates, walnuts, unsweetened apples, almonds, raisins, cinnamon.

Nutritional Info: 180 cals, 10g fat, 23g carbs, 4g fiber, 17g sugar, 4g protein.

Review: Good taste, although the dates were more prominent than the apples. I still really liked the flavor because it had a good mix of fruit and sweetness paired with the spice.

Cashew Cookie

Ingredients: Cashews, dates.

Nutritional Info: 210 cals, 12g fat, 23g carbs, 3g fiber, 14g sugar, 6g protein.

Review: Two ingredients, seriously? Great flavor, love the cashews (I am a big fan). They are not salted cashews, they are raw - big difference in taste, so again…if your idea of a cashew is the roasted and salted kind, know that a raw cashew is a bit different in taste. Yummy and it was definitely more like a cookie than a bar in texture. I enjoyed that variation.

Pecan Pie

Ingredients: Dates, pecans, almonds.

Nutritional Info: 200 cals, 14g fat, 22g carbs, 4g fiber, 16g sugar, 3g protein.

Review: Really great flavor. The pecan flavor definitely stands out. The dates add a nice amount of sweetness. I love that I can have my pecan pie, minus the corn syrup! I will definitely buy/eat this bar again.

Cinnamon Roll

Ingredients: Dates, walnuts, almonds, raisins, cashews, cinnamon.

Nutritional Info: 210 cals, 12g fat, 27g carbs, 4g fiber, 20g sugar, 4g protein.

Review: This actually tasted a lot like a cinnamon roll, but with nuts.

Ginger Snap

Ingredients: Dates, almonds, pecan, ginger, cinnamon, cloves.

Nutritional Info: 220 cals, 14g fat, 24g carbs, 5g fiber, 17g sugar, 5g protein.

Review: I could really taste the cloves and ginger. Not exactly like a gingersnap cookie, per se, but still great flavor.

Peanut Butter Cookie

Ingredients: Dates, peanuts, salt.

Nutritional Info: 210 cals, 13g fat, 23g carbs, 4g fiber, 16g sugar, 5g protein.

Review: Again, I love the fact that it only has three ingredients. Very good. Lots of peanut butter flavor. Great texture.

JOCALAT - Chocolate

Ingredients: Organic dates, organic almonds, organic walnuts, organic cocoa powder, organic cocoa mass, organic cashews.

Nutritional Info: 190 cals, 10g fat, 24g carbs, 5g fiber, 18g sugar, 5g protein.

Review: Very unsweetened-cocoa-powdery in flavor and also very rich. I liked it very much, but if you are not used to the unsweetened cocoa taste, it mind be too bitter for you.

JOCALAT - Chocolate Mint

Ingredients: Organic dates, organic almonds, organic cocoa mass, organic cocoa powder, organic vanilla flavor, organic peppermint flavor.

Nutritional Info: 190 cals, 9g fat, 25g carbs, 5g fiber, 19g sugar, 5g protein.

Review: good mint and cocoa flavor. It also had good crunch, there were some large almond pieces throughout. The dates added a sweetness that is different that sugar, which took me by surprise at first. Overall, it wasn’t like eating a Girl Scout Thin Mint (but then again, neither was the ingredients list). None the less, great flavor and I would eat this again.

OVERALL

I really enjoyed these bars. I think that one of my favorite attributes was the ingredients list. I love that these bars only include whole REAL ingredients and that the list is less than seven items total.  I was excited that they are soy free as well. Satiety-wise, I was pleasantly surprised that they tided me over for a couple hours, which is not typical for us with bars/snacks. In addition, we also enjoyed that they all had great crunch and were not mushy like many food bars of our past.

Overall, great product! I like what they stand for and personally will buy again.

Well, what are YOU waiting for! Go get your Lara bars today! WHOLE FOOD'S and Trader Joe's are carriers for these FABULOUS BARS!

Monday....Um STARVING!!!!

I can't believe how hungry I was all day! I mean I could have eaten all day long! It actually gave me a headache! I ate really well and did not lose control. I stayed focused, simply because the scale had creeped up to 126 again! I know how and why...SImply because I had some carbs over the weekend. Not even that they were bad or unmeasured, but because my body holds onto any carb-TIGHTLY!
My meals for today:
#1- 7am 5 egg whites
2 cups cubed honey dew melon

#2- 9am shake
1 cup blueberries
1 scoop protein
1 teaspoon almond butter

#3- 12:00
3.5 cups romain & cabbage
1/2 cucumber
6 oz grilled chicken
1 tablespoon flax oil

6 egg whites
2 cups honeydew melon

5.30 oz filet mignon
12 asparagus spears
1/2 very small acorn squash

So, as you can see, I ate....I ate very well....but as soon as each meal was done, I was ready for the next. I went to sleep with a hungry belly. I usually have a shake after my workout and before bed...But this week I am not doing that. I am only have 1 shake per day for the next 7 days, just to see how my body responds. Saturday, March 28, 2009

Ahhhh Saturday

The sun popped out while we were at the gym, yeah!!!! Even if I am inside, just knowing the sun is shinning is so good for my mental well being! So I got up this morning, cleaned up a little, talked with my husband and put together a food list. For breakfast, I got away from the shakes for a day, and decided to just have 2 whole eggs and two egg whites. I cut up a honey dew melon for Mario, so I had a cup of melon with my eggs...It was the perfect breakfast!

I ran to Starbuck's for my coffee and met Nicole at my house. Took some updated pics and on our way to NYSC in White Plains we went for some serious business! We did 20 minutes of HITT cardio on the treadmill....When I tell you, I could ring out my tank top, I literally had to take it off! We did 10 minutes on the stairs then went to the elliptical for 20 more minutes...I actually did 16 more minutes, when my body shut down and I had to breath! Freaking Nicole is like the energizer bunny! She can keep going....I am teaching her to NOT over do her cardio. She's learning! While she teaches me to do MORE cardio, I am learning! ;o)

So we ventured over to Whole Food's for some refueling and some food shopping....I had an enormous salad with about 6 oz of fresh sliced hot turkey breast. I couldn't even finish the whole thing! :O)

Just relaxing now...and going to get Heather from work, and take her for a mani...Some mommy and daughter time.... I was going to go back to the gym, but tomorrow is another day...A day for legs!

Here is what I have eaten today:

#1- 2 whites 2 whole eggs
1 cup Honey Dew Melon

#2- romaine lettuce
4 slices portabello mushrooms
2 tablespoons salsa
6 cucumbers
1 tablespoon olive oil
6 oz fresh turkey breast

#3-
Lara Bar- Chocolate/orange
NASTY!

#4-
pear & 1.5 tbsp almond butter
I know, i know, fat ass here i come! :o(

#5- Scallop (2) & jumbo Shrimp (3)
2 cups quinoa in veggie and tomato broth
1/2 cup peas.

Today was considered a re-feed day for me....I needed the carbs from the Quinoa tonight. Now I am set! I will be carb free until next week.
I am guessing I will get on the scale tomorrow and not lose the 3pounds I was hoping for, but this week....I WILL- It's my promise to myself!
Have a great night!
Until next time!

Leg day-STRESS day!

Ok, so not everyday is a PERFECT day! Even I have crappy days! UGH! My eating wasn't on point, my workout sucked, and I was completely OFF in every way today. If one thing gets in my brain that is bothering me, it's like I am paralized until it's resolved! I hate that side of me....I actually went to the gym, got on the treadmill, and 3 minutes later, found myself back in my car, driving home....I honestly don't know how I got there, I was in such a fog! I hate days like this!  I finally went back and breezed through with a pout on my face and SO NOT HAPPY TO BE THERE!

I have to get stronger mentally...I am insecure with myself at times, and let my inner child come out wayyy too much. A therapist once told me it's ok, to let my inner child out......But today, she really took over!

That is until Nicole came to my rescue! Meeting Nicole was like meeting my twin sister that was seperated from me at birth! She's GREAT. So, while I was down in the dumps, Nicole and I spent some girl time together..Did some food shopping (where the butcher asked if we were sisters) :O) , cooked, had a shake, some laughs, looked at our pics and ripped the bad ones apart..Ya know, real girl time! Gotta work on my upper back! UGH!

Hello Spring- Are you here yet?

Hope you al had a great weekend! The sun was shinning the air was BRISK! I certainly did! I spent Saturday with my friend Nicole who is getting ready for competition in June! She looks INSANE! Her abs are sculpted, arms are carved like clay into the PERFECT set of shoulders (like little cannon balls) triceps and biceps are tight, ripped and hard! I love her body! SO athletic! SHe is a little power house!
Sunday morning at 8am, we took pics (to be posted) at NYSC, followed by those NASTY stairs that call me in my sleep! I can't think of a better way to shrink your legs, tighten them up, burn lots of calories and get your heart rate up! It was sunny, so although it was cold, the sun felt good....It's getting easier. We agreed to do those stairs twice a week.......I think by the time June comes we will have the best legs in Westchester! WATCH OUT GIRLS!
I am still deciding whether or not to jump on stage....I will decide by mid May. I need to drop 11 more pounds and carve up my upper body! Other than that, my abs, legs and glutes are looking good!
I will be come more strict with my diet this week.....I had my last cheat meal last night, and boy did the scale show it this morning!
I am 126! YIKES. I had 1 cup GNOCCHI, 3 cups salad (NO DRESSING) and 1 7 oz breaded chicken cutlet with 2 tbsp mozzerella cheese on top! AMAZING! I don't fry them, I bake them.....but still...
My goal is 115! I can do it, nice and slow! I have the tools, I have the drive, the motivation- I WILL GET IT DONE!

Have a great day!

First day of Spring!

Is this a joke or what! Mario says to me this morning: "Honey! It's snowing". I was like "yeah right, especially since I had JUST YESTERDAY packed all my winter stuff and had Ty help me put it all in the attic! I looked outside, and my blood was BOILING! I honestly think God is playing a MEAN joke on me today! UGH!!!!!!!!!

Well, Last Sunday was my first day back at he STAIRS and TRACK in Rye...It felt amazing! A little too cold, which menat STIFF joints, but Me & Nicole made the most of it for about an hour...I was up to 450 calories BURNED-BABY!

I am suppossed to be competing in June, but am undecided right now. I think taking  3 weeks off after surgery has set me back...ALthough I am down 6.5lbs...I think most of it is muscle...BUT! I am not pulling out just yet. My diet is squeeky clean and my workouts are AWESOME...SO I have until the day of the show to decide.

I will be posting pics soon of my updated progress. I haven't taken pics in so long! Started doing a little tanning too. NOT ON MY FACE though- you know how I feel about wrinkles! Not on my clothes, my bed sheets or my FACE!!!!!!

**Want to lose some extra pounds? Drop your carbs ladies! Watch your bellies shrink and your butts get smaller!**

Make it a great day! HOPEFULLY this white CRAP will stop soon!

I'm back!

SO most of you have been following my blog over at apple/Mac! Well, I can't stop blogging because my apple needs a new harddrive! So, Mario and I decided to go with a PC for the small business/home use..Because well, he isn't too savy with computers. The apple is being fixed for the kids, since they LOVE to use it for photos and music, and and video too! Well, now everyone is happy!

This weekend I will be posting new and updated pics of my new jouney along with some long over due videos and recipes!

I hope you'll continue to be inspired and motivated!

I am happy to be back at BLOGGER! :O)
Tina.
