A little change will do ya good

Will it? I mean in the 39 years of my life, I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I have changed my look. I am NOT the trendy type nor the preppy type, I WAS the guidette type in high school (PHEW, Thank God that passed), I was NEVER the ROCKER type (TOO SKANKY for me). I guess my look is classic sporty- Goddess like! HA! I just made that up! I like it though. If you look at old pics of me…..

Halle Berry

I tend to go really long or super short Haley Berry

 5ebe1_victoria-beckham-blonde-short-hair-cut-3

or the classic Bob like my girl POSH. I always go back to one of these three. I can tell you that I am NOT going back to the SHORT SHORT hair- I am kinda on the fence about what I want to do.

All I know is that I am turning 40 in November, and I am looking to really change my look. I think that when you hit a certain age as a woman, there are certain things you need to take care, and there is a certain way you should carry yourself. These are my ideas and what I think I will be like in my 40’s.

1. I will have an elegant and classic Haircut & color (Courtesy of SALON O- In Greenwich CT)
2. I will have a set of manicured hands EVERY WEEK. NO MORE picking my nails. I have hands of a 10 year old little boy! COZY NAILS in GREENWICH CT- ROCKS!
3. I will dress appropriately for the occasion. NO MORE jean cut off shorts: AKA Daisy DUKES
4. I will eat accordingly… Like a LADY.
5. Continue to have TERRY Take care of my skin: LADIES, If you don't get peels, and micro-Derm and a little filler and Botox- you don't know what you are missing! Terry is the reason I have no lines and my skin glows!
6. I will STILL not drink alcohol- EXCEPT for Prosecco- What a classy LADIES drink!
7. Even with my awesome abs, I will NO LONGER rock the sports bra and short shorts in the gym- EVEN IF I am sweating A LOT!.
8. I will get MORE sleep: 7 hours is NOT enough
9. Smile and LAUGH more: it makes you look younger when you smile
10. Take my FISH OILS MORE often: they make your skin supple
11. LOVE MORE: HAVING a LOVING and caring heart makes you MORE BEAUTIFUL than ANY hair color or manicure.

As You can tell, I am a bit FREAKED OUT about this birthday…..

So, what do you think? SHORT? LONG? DARK, BLONDE???

HMMMMMM…………I guess you will all just have to wait and see!

HAVE A GREAT NIGHT!

A run in my new kicks PART two

This song helped me run like I was FLYING!

I did it my friends! I ROCKED MY RUN! I did 3 miles in 26 minutes, oh yea! You don’t even KNOW how happy this made me. I started with the foam roller and then I did my lateral kicks, and other dynamic stretches I normally do. I walked over to the treadmill and took a deep inhale in, got my playlist ready and took off. The sneakers???? THEY ARE AWESOME! I feel like a brand new person when I run and have NO issues. I won’t deny, I woke up this morning so achy, and I realized that every time it’s damp, humid or rainy I get like this, but by like 10:30, I wasn’t feeling as bad.

tumblr_ls6ifpGfXe1qzjcfto1_400

So here are my stats for today’s workout:

Run: 3 miles

Time: 26 minutes

Calories: 287- this is the only part that sucks…. The better the shape you are in, the LESS calories you burn, which means you have to AMP IT UP PEOPLE! Oh , I will be amping it up starting on Monday!

tumblr_lr2gi2O3Nc1qb5607o1_500

My endorphins started to kick in AFTER my run, so before my Booty Blast workout, I went into the studio and did a 10 minute jump rope circuit:

40 seconds on 40 seconds off:

Time: 10:43

Calories: 83

Heart rate: 143-166

tumblr_llppkx3Xes1qkt0imo1_500

For the Booty Blast workout I did, my stats are:

Time: 15 minutes- Sweat dripping all over!

Heart rate: 145-169

Calories: 123

tumblr_lm0iwqbSp41qke924o1_500

After that sweaty mess, I did a awesome circuit of these three POWERHOUSE moves  (FOR ME ANYWAY)

  • unilateral deadlift with 15lb dbells in each hand- 15 reps each leg
  • Step ups- focusing on a slow motion movement to really hit my glutes and quads
  • leg press: first two sets I pressed JUST the machine (which is so heavy to begin with) and then the last set I pounded out 20 reps with 50lbs

Time: 13:38

Calories: 122

Heart rate: 127-156

OVERALL, I give myself an A+ for today. My ATTITUDE was positive, my FOCUS was 100% and my effort was 110%

Have a wonderful afternoon and take a moment to reflect on where you are in your life, and how far you have come!!!!

GO YOU!

A run in my new KICKS!

tumblr_lrffcdJ5zm1qb5607o1_400

Hopefully today’s run that I have planned will go smoothly! Lord knows all I want to do is run, run, run! I want to get back to my hard long runs, where I would run for 10 miles. It seems so long ago, yet it was only 6 months ago… BOES DOES TIME FLY! Are you a runner? What is your longest run and how often do you run?I am developing a running schedule for myself and I think I am going to start from scratch. I am not planning on a race anytime before April, so I have plenty of time. For me, running 4 times a week is PERFECT, but I will start out with 3 times a week, and do my workouts in between.

I have been in denial recently- I have been over-training again, which has caused my joints to get angry with me. They keep me up all night long. I constantly feel this annoying lingering throbbing in my chins, knees, wrists and elbows, oh and my neck too. I am happy to report that Saturday will be my DAY OFF, and SUNDAY TOO!  I will start FRESH on Monday with my new plan- which I will share with you all, of course!

Today though, I will POWER IT UP with my new KICKS and RUN LIKE FORREST GUMP! Here is the GOAL for THIS RAINY

THURSDAY:
Start with my dynamic warm ups, foam roller and leg rehab exercises.
3 mile run at my 1/2 Marathon Pace:
  • Booty BLAST workout: need a medicine ball- that's all!
3 rounds: 1 minute each
  1. Glute raise - feet on small stability ball (one leg)
  2. Curtsy lunge
  3. split jumps
  4. Side lunge with rotation
  5. side plank with leg lift
  6. rest.

    She has GREAT legs!

  • More legs- HIGH REPS, minimal weights... LOOKING to lean out my legs even more! I was them SCULPTED! 3 sets
  1. leg press: focus on quads, so keep my feet shoulder distance apart, in the middle of the rack- 20 reps
  2. 1 leg dead lift: holding 15lb dbells- 15 reps each leg
  3. Step up: Side kick out with opposite leg, focusing on standing quad and glute and you go up and down, and as the other leg goes out as you go up, keep it locked straight- I do these for hip flexability and some inner thighs.
As far as my diet: seriously!?!?!? I AM NEVER buying Vegan Chocolate chips again! I HAVE NO WILL POWER!!!! I eat 1 bag in 7 days! My weight is perfect: I am 112lbs and happy, and the chips don't effect me in any way, other than they are a TREAT, and I should NOT be TREATING myself EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!!!!! Some habits sure are hard to break!

Did you try any of the new recipes I blogged this week??? HMMMMMM!!!!??!??!

Being SILLY!

SMART MAN! ;o)

Forbidden bean Salad.
I came up with the name because I used Forbidden rice. Just a little note on Forbidden rice:
This medium-size heirloom rice is treasured for its delicious roasted nutty taste, soft texture and beautiful deep purple color. Extremely high in a class of flavonoid antioxidants called anthocyanins. also rich in iron and, according to Chinese herbal medicine, considered to be a blood toner. A COOL presence on any plate, this once forbidden AMAZING FOOD is now an everyday rice.

  • Cooks in only 30 minutes

  • Whole grain and heart healthy

  • High in anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants reputed to prevent cancer and many other diseases

  • High in iron

  • Gluten and wheat free

  • Is Black rice the NEW BROWN!?!?

    Forbidden bean Salad

Aduki beans- 1 can- NO SALT & organic
    Onion- yellow: 1/2 chopped
    Celery: 3 stalks: chopped
    Parsley: 1/4 cup: chopped
    Tomato: fresh diced
    Forbidden rice: 1.5 cups
Garlic: 3 cloves chopped and added to rice as it cooked
    Lemon-lime juice: I used lots!

    TroubledTuesday

Everyone has their moments! Yes! Even me! Mrs. happy go lucky all the time gets CRABBY MOODY PISSED OFF AND FIESTY!  When I have a plan, that plan is STUCK in my head until I have ACCOMPLISHED what I set out to do. When it comes to RUNNING, I hardly EVER miss a beat. Those lovely new sneakers I JUST BOUGHT??? yea, well, they are GOING BACK! So, I put them on, and they feel a little snug, more than when I bought them. Am I retaining 100lbs of water? I don't think so! I took off my sox and figured, I would try running without sox and give them a GO. They were AWESOME on my heels, but super snug around my toes and bones, causing them to scrunch as I ran. Usually I am able to spread my toes and I run- NOT TODAY!!!!!!
SO pissed off, I hopped on the ARC TRAINER- SUICIDE!!!!! I HATE THAT FREAKING THING! I went and did my shoulder workout...Oh and PS, Was going to run in Greenwich today and realized I forgot my heart rate monitor...no biggy, I would go home make Mario's lunch, grab my watch and head to Mamaroneck- Would you BELIEVE, I FORGOT IT AGAIN! W*T*H!!!!!

I am not going to BITCH moan and complain about today.. I will just post what I did, and call it a NOT SO PERFECT DAY! We all have these days, I KNOW, I just prefer NOT TO!

    .75 miles on the treadmill
10 minutes on the SUICIDE MACHINE

    Shoulders:
    3 sets
    • Arm circles: 2.5lb dumbells/ 30 forward & 30 backwards
    • Bench stands: OH YEA! Hands on the floor, feet on the bench, glutes up as high as you can. You are going to move like your doing a push up, except this is ALL SHOULDERS- you will have to move your head to the side so  you can go all the way down.- I did 2 sets of 8 and then did one 15 rep set of decline push ups off kettle bells
    • uni- side laterals- 10lb dbell/ 10 reps x's 2 sets 7.5lbs/15 reps x's 1

    3 sets
    • Seated shoulder press: 20's/ 12 reps x's 2 sets 15's/ 15 reps x's 1 set
    • Flying Dutchess: In a plank position holding 2.5lb dbells, raise 1 at a time like a front shoulder raise. switch sides. Keep your whole core TIGHT, legs wide and QUADS locked. I did 10 reps and then on the 3rd set I used 5's and did 10 more reps
    • Upright Rows: 25lb plate/15 reps x's 3 sets
    • Reverse pec dec: 25lbs: 15 reps x's 3

Still PISSED OFF... I hopped on the bike and did 4 miles....PHEW this got my sweating. I was doing some stand up moves at a HIGH resistance, but for the most part I was going stead at 99-101 RPM's and it only took me 22:55.

On another NOTE, here is a Yummy new breakfast I tried this morning, only I can NEVER buy this cereal again! It's TOO DAMN ADDICTING!!!!!!
    • I took: 1 cup cereal and put it ion a bowl.
    • 1 8 oz container of Coconut Milk
    • Add the protein to the ceral and BAM!!!!!!!!! Instant YUMMY_NESS
It tasted so good, it was like a CIRCUS IN MY MOUTH! UGH!!!!! I knew this was a bad idea buying this cereal. THANK GOODNESS I only bought one box! If you LOVE cereal and are trying to stay LEAN, DO NOT BUY THIS CEREAL!

    My Marvelous Monday

Weighed in at 113.2! WTH?!?! GRRR! I hate being a woman sometimes! Whatever! Well, I have somewhat of a new plan for ME. Of course, you can TAG ALONG and join me if you wish, but you MUST be able to cook, LOVE to cook and WANT TO cook for yourself. I am trying out some recipes I have had since I became Vegan 2 years ago, Oh and PS, I am almost a Vegan again.

Honestly friends, I can't do the fish thing anymore, I just get so grossed out. Tuna in the can by American Tuna Co. is fine, once every other week, and egg whites are even bothering me again (they really are dairy ya know). I do my Beverly International Muscle Provider shakes still after EVERY workout, and I do 1/2 a scoop before my workout, but THAT IS IT! I had my last piece of Buffalo on Saturday night, didn't feel so well afterwards. July 1st, 2011, just a little over 2 months ago, I really did try to start eating some animal meat again, but I tell you, just like when I took dairy out 4 years ago, my tastebuds never looked back. I won't tell you what I think about when I see yogurt, white milk, cottage cheese, Kefir, etc...Well OK, I will tell you! A cow's saggy fat BOOB dragging on the ground waiting to be yanked, pulled and squeezed so US HUMANS can get our FIX... I think of cellulite when I see cottage cheese, and WE ALL have SOME cellulite SOMEWHERE on our bodies, I don't need any more, thank  you!

Thanks for letting me rant a little! So, slowly I am going back to what makes my belly happy. I don't think I will TOTALLY take out the egg whites YET, or the Whey protein, because even with JUST a little of it, I FEEL INCREDIBLE strength when I workout and I see so much more definition in my body. I don't look SCRAWNY anymore.

As always, I find AMAZING recipes, read the ingredients and I switch things around to create my own version..... This mornings breakfast was AMAZING! (I wish I took a picture, but it was 4:45am, sorry peeps, I was a sleepy girl!) Of course, I added whey protein to the oats, because I need the protein. I used cherry juice instead of Apple Juice, because Cherries are a natural ant inflammatory.

    My BREAKFAST CREATION!

    Chocolate Cherry Oatmeal with currants

    • 1 Serving
    • 1/2 cup Gluten free Quick cooking Steel cut oats
    • 1/4 cup Cherry juice, NOT FROM CONCENTRATE
    • 1 1/3 cup water
    • dash of cinnamon
    • 1/2 cup currants
    • 1 tablespoon Beverly Chocolate protein powder

*Combine oats, Cherry juice, water, and cinnamon in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer, then cover and cook 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in raisins or currants, then protein. Let stand 3 minutes before serving.

I ate that breakfast like I was going to the chair! Seriously, I inhaled it at around 5:45, once I got to work.  Wouldn't you KNOW IT, by 9:30, my belly alarm went off telling me to FEED HER! I sure did! A Two Mom's in The Raw Bar....

By the time I got home around 11:00, I made Mario's lunch and made my secret weapon pre-workout concoction- POTION!

    • 1/2 scoop Beverly Protein
    • 4 oz really cold water
    • 1 tbsp organic coconut oil
    • 1 tbsp L-Carnitine

I was feeling a little OFF today when I got to the gym. Not sure why, Maybe I was sleepy from getting up so early, who knows, but I had to shake it off and get a MOVE ON IT! I had in my journal a goal of doing 8 Tabata Sets of sprinting at 9.0 for 30 seconds and walking 3.2 for 20 seconds on the treadmill. That didn't turn out so well. I felt this TEENY TINY TWINGE in my knee, so I just said Nah, NOT WORTH IT! I hopped on  the bike and sweat doing a pretty hefty 3 mile ride.  DO you put a towel on the sit when you ride the bike at your gym? For some reason, Equinox was OUT of towels when I needed them, so I had to sit on the CROTCH ROT SEAT~ It Really grosses me out! Who knows, who sat there, all I know is that the seat was damp and It wasn't my ass that made it that way! I hopped off after my three miles, and strolled into my SANCTUARY! The Group Fitness Studio, Just ME and um, well ME! THE WAY I LIKE IT!

    New Dinner recipe...

    Quinoa Salad

    Makes about 8 1-cup servings

    • 2 cups cooked quinoa (I use a rice cooker) Cook the quinoa ahead of time.
    • 1/4 red onion- diced super small
    • 2 carrots grated
    • 1 red bell pepper diced small
    • 2 cups shredded cabbage- Green
    • 1/8 cup chopped parsley
    • juice of 1 whole lemon
    • 1/4 cup brown rice vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 tablespoon curry powder
    • salt to taste

In a large bowl, combine quinoa and boiling water. Cook according to the package. I use a rice cooker.

Add onion, bell pepper, carrot, cabbage, parsley.

In a small bowl mix lemon juice, vinegar, oil, curry powder, and salt. Add to salad and toss to mix.

Mario's plate had my Turkey meatloaf recipe on there. If you want that recipe as well, just email me. He said it was FABULOUS! I just had the Quinoa recipe on my dish and added a Dr. Preagar's veggie burger. The quinoa gave me PLENTY of protein.

    Sunday Sauce

What a sticky humid day huh??? It almost felt like it were August ALL over again. I don't mind, as long as there is no rain and no snow, this girl is happy. Mass was beautiful this morning as always. Each and every Sunday going to Church is my way of cleansing my soul, my mind and my heart from any negative feelings emotions or thoughts. I am set up for a positive and productive week.

I was on a mission to find sneakers, so I tried Dick's Sporting Goods in White Plains. It was perfect especially since Whole Foods was in the same building!  Here is what I decided on! I LOVE asics and I also love Nike, but I went with the Asics instead this time.....

Whole Foods was also on the agenda today, and as always, it's packed, but I don't even let it phase me, as I stroll down the isles and take my time picking great food for my family. I smile, stand there, read labels, discover new foods and go about my business, as most are CRAZED by the hustle and bustle of carts, kids, and isles full of people. I ALWAYS bag my own food and thank the baggers for offering to help.

YEP! Gotta wear them lots more now! UGH!

Mario wanted meatballs and pasta for dinner tonight, since Sundays I usually make a Big dinner, and as he calls it a cheat meal. It's Not really a cheat meal for him though since I use ALTERNATIVES to the normal recipes. Mario purchased 90% ground lean sirloin, so this is what I used for HIS meatballs.... NONE FOR ME!

Add 1lb ground 90% lean sirloin to a large bowl

    Add Chopped fresh parsley

    Add two large omega-3 eggs

    Chopped garlic

    I LOVE adding red onion

Isn't it pretty so far? SO colorful!

Instead of breadcrumbs, I used Steel cut quick cooking oats

    Another pretty pic!

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. This mixture made 9 meatballs. They were a decent size. Mario ended up having 3 big ones!

For my Sauce, I added great OLIVE OIL to my pan, and added the chopped garlic & chopped onions. I let them carmalize and then I added my tomatoes.

These tomatoes are so yummy! NO, I don't have time to ALWAYS use fresh tomatoes, I do have to use canned sauce at times, but I tell you this..... They are the best!

Add my seasonings. I also added about 1/4 cup water since the tomato sauce is on the thick side.

I pop the balls in the oven for 8 minutes, but first I spritz them with olive oil spray. Cooking them in the oven sets the outside and makes them a TEENY bit on the crisp side....Inside they are full of juice!

I went with the Farro pasta tonight for Mario. It's SUPER LIGHT, and SO much better than eating WHITE pasta!

As soon as the timer goes off, I add the balls to the sauce and let them simmer on very low heat for about 25 minutes.

I decided to have my sauce on top of Spaghetti squash! It's simply AMAZING! WHO NEEDS ANY KIND OF PASTA!

And here you have Mario's dinner. Doesn't it look delicious!?!?
HE LOVED IT! SO as you can see, NO I didn't use any cheese, white pasta, fattier meat, etc... so DO I consider this a cheta meal? Nah, just a higher quality higher calorie dinner. Believe me, my husband will burn it off in 1 workout tomorrow! :O)
